Notifications

Notifications let you know when an event relating to iStat Menus’ monitoring has happened.

Disabled notifications #

For notifications to function, the corresponding iStat Menus item must be turned on — if you’d like to be notified of changes in CPU usage, the CPU item needs to be enabled. In the example below, the CPU item in iStat Menus is turned off, and the CPU notification is ghosted.

Alerts vs banners #

Each notification can be either an alert or a banner. Alerts remain on your screen until closed. Alerts are suitable for information and events you do not want to miss.

Banners appear for a while, then disappear. Banners are best for information that is helpful in the moment, but less useful later.

System Preferences #

For the notifications in iStat Menus to function properly, “Allow Notifications” must be turned on for iStat Menus Status and iStatMenusAgent under Notifications & Focus in your Mac’s System Preferences.

iStat Menus Status needs to have the Banners alert style and iStatMenusAgent needs to be set to Alert. This allows notifications inside iStat Menus to be either banners or alerts.
