Fans

iStat Menus can help control the speed of fans in your Mac. iStat Menus can’t lower fans below the speed the system would normally use, but it can raise the fan speeds.

There are three main modes of fan control in iStat Menus.

  1. Automatic.
  2. Custom fan curve.
  3. Manual.

Automatic #

With fan control set to Automatic from the Sensor menu, iStat Menus will not control fans at all — your Mac’s fans will act as if iStat Menus is not installed.

Custom fan curve #

When fan control is set to custom fan curve from the Sensor menu, the fan speed will progressively ramp up as sensor temperatures incrase, as per the curve set on the sensor tab.

Manual #

Fan speeds can be set directly via the sliders in the fans menu in the sensor menu bar item. To enable manual fan control, click the switch to the right of the Manual label. The fan speed can be set via the slider below. Please note that manual fan speed slider settings are not saved across reboots.
