Rules

The rules tab can be used to set up notifications let you know when an event relating to iStat Menus’ monitoring has happened.

Temporary vs persistent notifications #

Each notification can be either temporary or persistent. Temporary notifications appear for a while, then disappear. Temporary notifications are best for information that is helpful in the moment, but less useful later.

Persistent notifications remain on your screen until closed. Persistent notifications are suitable for information and events you do not want to miss.

System Settings #

For the notifications in iStat Menus to function properly, Allow notifications must be turned on for iStat Menus Helper, with the alert style set to persistent. And, Allow notifications must be turned on for iStat Menus Menubar, with the alert style set to temporary.

This allows notifications inside iStat Menus to be either temporary or persistent.

macOS 15 and earlier #

Older versions of macOS called temporary notifications “banners”, and persistent notifications were called “alerts”.
